Week of July 26, 2008: The backside of the full moon has brought with it a lot of good fishing on our local flats. Jacks, schooling bonefish and tarpon were all caught this week. Canadian angler Raymond fished with us this week on the wading flats for tarpon and landed his first, a 100 pound beauty on the fly. They had to move around a bit, but found them late in the morning (around 10:00am) and hammered them until the tide left them dry. Each flat has a different effect on fish around moving tides, and if you have a good guide, you will be able to maximize your efforts all day. As you can see, these tarpon are moving on the shallow flats looking for food. Ray's wife Jill was along for the ride and provided the great photography. Great caster and an all around gentlemen, can't wait to see you next year Ray. -Omar
The result of good guiding and great casting skills
Week of August 2, 2008:
Our guides headed out to seek Permit for repeat clients and boy did they find them. Schools were spotted immediately upon pulling up to the spot. Four large permit were landed until the school finally left them around noon. Our anglers were screaming for mercy, so we took them to the bonefish flats out front and strung up the 6 weights. Back to the barn with tired arms by 4PM.
Hugging the beast is a way to thank the tarpon gods
Week of August 11, 2008:
Since the permit fishing has been spectacular the last few weeks, we decided to go at it again with client Simon Fields. We gave our usual "go to" spot a rest for a few days and went to seek out new water. Boy did it pay off, it seems like all of our waters are teeming with hungry permit this summer. This is normally our Tarpon season, but more permit than ever have been landed so far this August. Since the full moon passed, we have literally seen thousands of Permit cruising the shallows. Hopefully this continues into the next moon phase. The weather has been consistent also, with light winds and bright skies almost daily. Congratulations to Simon on this great fish of about 10 pounds. Great fish!
Simon is all smiles after this permit decided to chew feathers
