Week of July 26, 2008:
The backside of the full moon has brought with it a lot of good fishing on our local flats. Jacks, schooling bonefish and tarpon were all caught this week. Canadian angler Raymond fished with us this week on the wading flats for tarpon and landed his first, a 100 pound beauty on the fly. They had to move around a bit, but found them late in the morning (around 10:00am) and hammered them until the tide left them dry. Each flat has a different effect on fish around moving tides, and if you have a good guide, you will be able to maximize your efforts all day. As you can see, these tarpon are moving on the shallow flats looking for food. Ray's wife Jill was along for the ride and provided the great photography. Great caster and an all around gentlemen, can't wait to see you next year Ray. -Omar

Father and son dou Simon and Christopher were out today slamming our Tarpon fishery this week. Well, Simon Fields added another nice species at the very end of his fishing week....a Tarpon of about 50 pounds. Our head guide spotted some Tarpon while on his day off doing some recon work and reported to the others who were quick to move to that spot the next day with Simon and his son.

September is starting out with a real Bang here in Belize. Hurricanes that start out to the east of us generally make a shift north and miss our area completely. That was the case this past week as our guests were pleasantly surprised by warm, sun baked flats teeming with fish.

This week brought our Allan Johnson school of fly casting down to Belize. Allan has been teaching fly casting professionally for over 14 years and will be hosting several group trips in the coming months. This trip was a large group of his students, many were seasoned bonefishers and some were new to the salt.

We are at our mid-way point in the season, the part where tourism is really down and the anticipation of our huge Tarpon migration begins to stir in our guides and customers minds. The big fish have not arrived yet, but our friends down south have informed us that the fish are thick in their waters. They should start to trickle in any day and by early August, or flats should be loaded with rolling Tarpon. The last few years we have successfully landed more large Tarpon on the fly rod than ever. We are proud to host Curtis Fleming and the Fly Rod Chronicles during the week of August 22nd. They will be filming their show with us all week and are looking to come tight with some Tarpon.

August 20, Fly Rod Chronicles
This week we were very proud to host Curtis Fleming and his crew from Fly Rod Chronicles TV. The goal was to film a show featuring flats fishing for Tarpon. The show will debut in early 2010, and we are all excited to see it. The big Tarpon migration is in full swing and we chose this time period as it would put the odds in our favor. These fish are bigger than our resident "year round" fish and can sometimes tip the scales at over 150 pounds.

Scott Runciman left the cold Alberta winter for some last minute fly fishing on Ambergris Caye this week. He found us after his local fly shop referred us to him. As soon as he contacted us, we knew that Scott was an experienced angler and we wanted him to get a shot at a slam. We have been seeing all 3 slam species in our waters since late February, but cold fronts can come through at any time at put things down for a day or so. Luckily for Scott, the weather held on and he was into the fly fishing action in Ambergris Caye

This week we wrapped up another week of solid Tarpon fishing out on the Savannah flats with our guests. August is really becoming a great all-round month for every flats species. How great is it when our guest leaves the dock at 5AM, jumps 4 tarpon by 6:30, lands one of them, then moves off to the Permit grounds to cast to tailing fish until noon. On the way back, a stop at the bonefish flats gets the reels screeming once again. A lonely Tarpon even came to the edge of the flat and gave these guys a shot with their lightweight bonefish rods. One of our best days on the water indeed.

2010 Year in Review
This year was one of our best years fishing in Ambergris Caye. We had many new clients join us and fish Belize for the first time, and also had many repeat fisherman come and fly fish Ambergris Caye. Our guides in Belize did their best all year to stay on the fish, and when the fish seemed to move, they were always on them. These guys even went out and fly fished on their days off to make sure they stayed on the fish here in San Pedro and Ambergris Caye. We had one of our largest groups come down and fish with us (15 guys). The staff at the resort responded with ease, and made sure everyone was comfortable and all their non-fishing needs were handled.

January 2011
This month we were greeted with warm weather and light onshore winds, producing slick calm flats and feeding flsh. Luckily for Paige and Jim Cavanah and their son, they picked the right time to fly fish Belize. The Cavanahs are experienced fisherman from the heart of the US, but wanted to test their fishing skills on the flats of Central America. Here in Belize, our guides know where the fish are at all times of the year. December and January can be great fishing months in Ambergris Caye Belize if you have a good guide. The Cavanaughs were confident that did our homework and decided to use us to outfit their package. It turns out they made the right decision.

This week we brought down Michael Chamblee to Belize for the first time. he was anxious to break the midwest winter cold and get out with our guides and fly fish for Belize Grand Slam species. He and his wife wanted a trip where they can get in some rest, relaxation and romance, but also spend some time fishing on the water. March is a great month because the fishing usually picks up when the winds lay down and you have an opportunity to catch Permit, Bonefish and schoolie Tarpon all in the same day. Ambergris Caye has great fly fishing all within minutes of your accommodations. Our fly fishing packages are affordable and convenient not only for you but for the non-angling partner as well.

This week we were pleased to host a large group of fly fisherman from Oklahoma, headed by John W. Smith, the wrestling coach for OK State University. John was referred to us by one of our affiliate fly shops in Miami, so we were up to the challenge of meeting his needs. Coach was really looking to fly fish for Tarpon on this trip to Belize. Normally at this time the Tarpon are migrating through Belize and the fishing can be truly amazing, but the movement seems a bit late this year, and the fly fisherman were challenged this week.
